Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet medication used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in individuals with cardiovascular disease. It helps prevent blood clots by inhibiting platelet aggregation. The drug is commonly prescribed after heart attacks, stent placement, or in patients with peripheral artery disease. It is often used in combination with aspirin for enhanced antithrombotic effect.

Dosage and direction
Clopidogrel is taken orally once daily, with or without food, usually at a fixed dose of 75 mg. In acute situations, a loading dose of 300–600 mg may be given initially. Rarely, clopidogrel may cause a condition called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).

Drug interaction
Clopidogrel may interact with blood thinners like warfarin, NSAIDs, and certain proton pump inhibitors, such as omeprazole. These interactions can increase the risk of bleeding or reduce the effectiveness of treatment. Inform your doctor about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements. Avoid combining with herbal products like ginkgo biloba without medical advice.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose of clopidogrel, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Consistency is important to prevent blood clots.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include excessive bleeding, vomiting with blood, or weakness. In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately. There is no specific antidote, and treatment is supportive with possible use of platelet transfusion. Hospital monitoring may be required depending on the severity of symptoms.

Storage
Store clopidogrel at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Keep it in its original packaging and out of reach of children. Do not use the medication after the expiration date printed on the label. Properly dispose of any unused tablets in accordance with local regulations.
